WU  initially used 5 selector magnet, type bar page printers for their 
mux system. But at some point, WU efficiency engineers found that some 
messages would be received with errors and the whole message would have 
to be resent. They decided that receiving the messages on a gummed tape, 
and then attaching it to a message bank,would be more economical, since 
corrections could be inserted without resending the whole message. 
Morkrum & Kleinschmidt modified their page printers to turn them onto 
their backs, with the type bars up in the air and then type down onto a 
tape instead of up onto a platen.  These new tape printers were the 
Model 20A, 21A, 22.

The WU Model 5A looks a lot like the Morkrum printer in patents 1232045 
(1909/1917) & 1738777 (1919/1929).   Are these two patents the basis for 
the Morkrum "Blue Code" & "Green Code" printers??
