Next time you take a spring out, or put one in do this:

Wind a length of dental floss a couple times around one turn of the spring, or if it has a closed end, around the base of that.  Then tie the two ends of the string together and clamp the string them to something sturdy.

Install away.  If the spring sproings it won't go far.
