Thanks guys.  How about a 3/16 inch wood dowel with adhesive copper tape wrapped around it?  Needs to be light for the balloon and I will have the dowel structure.  Thx

Yes, although you may not have equipment capable of measuring the difference.  Current flows in the driven element, reflector and directors.  Steel music wire would be the worst choice.  Copper wire and bamboo would be better.  Copper tubing the best.  Aluminum tubing is almost as good and is the usual choice because of weight and cost.
