Question is though re: photo in this article....was this control/AFSK unit  
issued to the military or just offered as a commercial item? If military 
there  should be a manual we can get hold of that will provide a wealth of  
knowledge.
 

In the article it is clearly the commercial version of the Model 31 being  
shown...

another thing notice they mention this being a 20 mil loop on the  
commercial one... glad to learn that before I lit mine off... Our commercial one  
belonged orig to John Sheets then George Hutchinson then us.
 

One thing of note... there was a large offering of these machines to  
HAMs... but since they were tape printers did not get as much love as the page  
printers... like the model 15 the good thing? these things are small enough 
they  my be lodged under workbenches and in out of the way places still

at SMECC we are trying to figure out how many of these are still around so
