[GreenKeys] ASR33 punch reader control line

Ed,

Send pics with the cover off. One of the whole 33 straight down on it and one of the electronics straight down. It looks like it might be a UCC-6.

You would only need a blank UCC-6 cover, Line/Off/Local knob and front plate to make it into a straight 33. Thats if it is a UCC-6 and the TWX part can be removed easily. I have the blank covers and knob.

ok! shall pull the cover this week and photo!
aside form the no carriage return on the printer
seems like nice unit .. I managed to get it for 75 dollars
it came with lots of paper although 2 part.
and the kind people drove it over tot the building us. The curse of
it is the monster acoustic cover... need to find someone that wants one !
can... not... bring myself....to...throw...it... away... I guess the solve
is display it as a twx and leave the monster enclosure on it!

Ed,

You have an after market TWX. Not sure what you will find under the touch tone dial pad. You need to remove the whole cover and see whats inside. It may be a regular UCC-6 but I doubt it. UCC-6 is the electronics on a straight computer 33.

The front covers (plate) are difficult to find in good shape.

But first you need to see whats inside.

folks it says twx on modem... but also says ddd so I assume it is!? not a telex? even though it has western union stuff on it!? runs... keyboard a little sluggish but will not carriage return but does line feed. ( go I guess I need a service hint for the no return) I have not even popped the case yet.

what is the interface between the modem and the tty? current loop or!?

I need to find the metal trim strip and a knob for the front of the beast.

all the years of working with these in the old times i never had any twx. or telex ones... they all came off computers...

we have 3 rooms of new displays... so the maint.on machine stuff is stacking up! have this one the 28 stuck keyboard and the other 28 that linefeeds all the time! argh!

thanks for any and all elp guys

Later model TWX would be converted to ASCII 33 with a UCC-6, some cover parts and a tape reader solonoid in the printer change. TWX soloid is 48 VAC. Needs 120 VAC or you will get smoke.

You are correct. Normally the 33 ASR tape reader works in Line mode
the same as Local mode. I have been removing the DEC reader control
card for most all of my restored 33's until recently when quite a few
people were asking for that option.
eah, when you find a 33 ASR on ebay, if it has the DEC computer mod installed,
hose go for big bucks to people who are trying to restore old DEC computers.
he TWX models, on the other hand, are almost worthless in terms of $.
