[GreenKeys] and now, for something completely off-topic

The grocery store that I frequent has been installing the do it yourself
checkout lanes.
There are a combined total of 18 check-out lanes, and every few months they
remove a "manned" lane and install a do-it-yourself one, as if no one notices.
Their current tactic is to only staff one or 2 manual lanes, then when the
line backs up, an employee escorts you to a self check-out lane and does it
for you.
I guess their psychology is that shoppers are like birds and will just
follow the bread crumbs.
I usually get quite vocal with the "mis-manager" and explain that I will do
the self checkout if they offer a discount, otherwise I'll go someplace
else. That elicits nothing more than a shrug.
I had a friend in ATL years ago who was tier 3 support on HP on Superdomes.
One day they walked in, told them they were not needed anymore, but could
work for the contractor replacing them for half pay.
Lower wages = more corp profits.
Cheaper is better.
And the death spiral continues ...
