   I had trouble with ribbon perforation, but turning down the
typing force was enough to solve the problem.  Let us know
how this "platen refurbishing" works out.

   Modern nylon ribbons are less resistant to perforation than
the original cotton ribbons.  Also, some electric typewriters
were designed to have a lower striking force on small characters
like "-" and ".".  Teletypes don't have that mechanism.
