Happy news!
After finally getting replacements for the slow-blow fuses that had blown, I 
owered it on and it worked right away!
I have been very lucky to get away with this.

 For the SMD's we used to build into converted 32/33 TAMs, we used TI3027
 which was PNP Ge TO3 Vcb 45 Vce 40 Ic 7A Beta 100 at 3 amp.
 The PS put out about 20 volts.
 Actually any modern Si power transistor should work.
