Yes, that's about right, believe it or not. It may even be more on some
things. It is not only eBay but PayPal as well. Fees are taken "off
the top" including shipping charges. So, in other words, if a Seller
quotes $X for shipping, and it is the actual amount, then the Seller
*loses* money on shipping because once the money goes into their PayPal
account (the winning bid price plus shipping costs) PayPal extracts a
percentage out of the *entire* amount. eBay charges fees to list an
item and for incidental things as well and then there is the final value
fee. Having sold a lot of things on eBay either by choice or necessity,
I can sympathize with this fellow's statement although I too would
probably not be willing to pay his price either. It seems to be a rule
that whatever you want to ship, the free PO boxes won't fit or there
will be some restriction which prevents you from sending it in that
particular box. There are also things like packing tape, packing
materials (unless you have unlimited space to store a lot of those
things that you get when you buy things), time standing in line at the
PO, gas to and from, etc. If you are looking to make money on selling
things, eBay probably isn't the way to go now. eBay has definitely
stacked the cards against the Seller not only in terms of fees but in
other policies as well. A Buyer can back out of a deal, not pay, not
communicate, etc., and a Seller has absolutely no recourse; can't even
leave negative feedback anymore. However, a Buyer can complain to eBay
about a Seller, whether justified or not, and get their money back 100%
of the time, leave negative feedback, lie, etc., and the Seller has no
recourse but to block the bidder from bidding on his items again . . .
at least under that particular user-i.d.

Sorry, but that's my eBay rant for the day. Carry on.

Kevin
