My name is John Watson and I'm an ex UK Post Office teleprinter engineer now a professional musician but also a volunteer at the wartime code breaking museum, Bletchley Park where I build, overhaul and maintain most of the teleprinters on site. We have just obtained a WW2 German Lorenz T36 machine in very poor condition which we intend to re-build. Looking for any available documentation in our archive I read in T. E. Herberts 'Telegraphy' that the Post Office used the same machine though manufactured in the USA (by the Morkrum-Klienschmidt Corp, Chicago) and designated it the Teleprinter 2A. The book is a reprint of the 1930 edition so I assume it was in use prior to then probably as a page printing machine rather than the tape printing Tptr 3.
Knowing how the P.O. worked there would have been some documentation produced on this Tptr 2A (E.I.s or similar) and I am especially keen to see copies of this particularly the strip down procedures before I start work on the machine. Herberts Telegraphy gives a good working description and we have a copy of a Lorenz book giving similar information in German.
Do you have any idea where I may find such information?? Any help would be very much apreciated.
Best regards,
John Watson
