I'm in the process of digitizing an early 1950s Mergenthaler Linotype
Sales Manual which contains some information on the Teletypesetter.
In particular, one section is a "Sales Primer on Teletypesetter":

<http://www.circuitousroot.com/artifice/letters/press/compline/literature/linotype/sales/sales-manual/lsm-1949/index.html#p58>

It tries to bring the Mergenthaler salesman up to speed quickly
both on the TTS as part of the system of newspaper production
and on a few details of matrix requirements and the TTS unit-set system.
The Associate Press had only recently adopted the TTS.

One thing I found interesting was that apparently the Teletypesetter
Corporation insisted that the Mergenthaler Linotype Company delete
from their "Linotype Handbook for Teletypesetter Operation" the fact
that they (TTS Corp.) were a subsidiary of the Teletype Corp.
(see p. 7 of the "Sales Primer") It's curious that they should
have felt their corporate ownership to be confidential.
