Not only that, but with the keyboard running the punch only,
you could type as fast as you could. Which is how I used mine
on the radio. With the keyboard tied to the drive shaft, you
could only type at 1/2 the machine speed.
I used to drive the guys in the round table nuts by typing ahead
then being able to type at about 45-50 WPM to the tape. When
it was my turn, I'd turn on the transmitter the start the tape
reader. When I saw that I was getting near the end of my "buffer"
I'd turn it over to the next guy. So my entire end of the conver-
sation as such, went out at a steady 60 wpm.
At least one of the guys was a classic hunt and peck typist. And
with the others, the speed limitation of 30 wpm wasn't an issue.
