It has what you would think of as a "standard" selector mechanism with 
two coils.

The parallel units had five solenoids across the top (one for each bit) 
and  they used the standard Baudot/Murry code. There was also a "print" 
solenoid that was the address line (think "chip select") The AWA Museum 
has a Kleinschmidt Electric  Co. Model 20A, c1920, made for Western Union:



There was a similar Morkrum model, the 21A.

The Navy had units that would convert CW to Baudot and Baudot to CW.
