All:

Thanks to all who have responded to my request for assistance in getting
the Internet Teletype operation going at this end (here in SC). Please
keep your replies and suggestions coming as all of your ideas are being
tried. One of these days, it "might" work. Thanks also to those of
you who made the effort and telephoned me today both on the phone
and via Skype. It is greatly appreciated.

My problems in trying to get the ITTY teletype channels to work
has been an exercise in futility and I am deeply frustrated and
ready to give up. It is now my belief that whoever wrote this
software and set this system up could not have made it any more
difficult, awkward or difficult to work with. Much of the "tutorial"
is written in so much computerese techno-talk that it is
not understandable and there are no helpful guides. While I have
tried to follow most of what most of you have offered, much
of this still doesn't produce any useful results thus far. So, I
am back to square one: guess work, and trial and error. I am
beginning to understand the true meaning of insanity: doing the
same things over and over again and again, expecting different
results. At best, ITTY teletype has been "hit and miss" mostly
miss.....with less than gratifying results so far.

Here is what I have at the moment to work with and the results thus
far:

I have 5 computers in-house (in my home).

2 are late model laptops, one with Win 7 and the other with Win 8.
Both of the laptops will pick up ITTY sometimes, using any one of the many
audio players (Winamp, Real Player, etc). Sound (audio) is strong,
loud and clear -- no problem. The laptops will copy some ITTY
traffic but with significant garble in the text - sometimes with
entire messages being garbled. That is the best I have been
able to come up with on the 60 wpm channels. Neither will
copy Autostart or National (100 wpm), as these result in
nothing but garble. I am particularly interested in Autostart
as I would like to begin sending traffic to the Autostart. That
interest and effort however, is thwarted by the problems I
am having just trying to receive.......(you get the idea here).

3 of the machines here will pick up the MMTTY screen
with no problems at all. The 4th machine, a PC, is unable
to download the MMTTY software because the software
seems to be blocked by the ISPs. More on that later......

The 100 wpm channel is always garbled, so I don't even mess
with that one anymore, since it is a waste of time and effort to date.

There are three PCs here:

The newest is a 1 month old Win 8 machine which belongs to
wife. Of course, she won't let me near it, as that is her prize
possession......(understandable). I only get to work on it
when she has a problem. FWIW, I am pretty handy at
working with and troubleshooting these machines, so that
is not an issue. Machine care, maintenance, updates,
and all the techy stuff to keep them going and all of
that are non-issues. All of these machines are in excellent
running condition with no software issues or glitches.....
they are clean. We use various ISPs and online services:
ATT.NET, Google, Firefox and AOL...and we have
DSL exclusively (the high end version of DSL). My
DSL router is a high-end industrial or business router, and
not the run-of-the-mill "residential" type. It works
very well. Circuit outages and link failures are not
problems.

The other 2 PCs are 5 year old XP machines. Normally I
do not attempt to use either for ITTY work, as the one, while
it shows the ITTY / MMTTY screen perfectly, seems to have
terrible sound quality (probably a low end sound card).

The other XP machine is identical to the other one mentioned
above (both bought at the same time). Both work well for
everything else, just not MMTTY. This 2nd machine for some
reason, has no sound (it did, but apparently, it toggled off,
and I have not been able to find a way to turn it back on, in
spite of the fact that the drivers, and the "system" says that
the sound and audio devices are in fact connected and
"working" which they are not. So, that machine is not
available for MMTTY - at least not yet, or until I can fix
the darn sound problem. May take a day or two to
figure that one out, especially since the machine "says"
that everything is "fine" and "working" which it is not.
The machine is lying to me.........(this machine seems to
have had a slightly better sound card, in that it once
"heard" the audio on ITTY Teletype much better than the
machine above).

FWIW, I spent half the day trying to download MMTTY software
into the 2nd PC only to find that the URLs on Google show
almost all of the MMTTY URLs as "unavailable" for
download. One came back as a "Leech Attempt" suggesting
the software is now proprietary, and is being blocked
by the ISPs. There were about 3 or 4 different URLs for
MMTTY -- all of them blocked, including the one on the
ITTY (Internet Teletype) page. None were downloadable today.
Two of the blocked URLs instead sent me unwanted other
junk programs to download instead which I didn't want and
did not download (Driver Finder, PC Cleaner, and other
ride-along programs).

And for Ricebox: the MMTTY URL you sent came thru
OK on your email. However, when I went to open it to
install -- it came up with software garbage that was
entirely different from what it was supposed to be. The
MMTTY link you sent showed "PC Cleaner" software
in place of the MMTTY software.......

So, as you can see, I am in a quandry. Can't get ITTY
channels to work, and can't get the software to download.

I will continue to try if you continue to send me ideas and
suggestions, but I must admit that I am fast running out of
both time and patience with the ITTY/MMTTY mess and its'
really not fun anymore......it's becoming a laborious effort
that I am rapidly tiring of.

Thanks to all who have responded thus far. Hope I can get this
to for me someday while I am still "above ground"! LOL
