If you only want to demonstrae the printer from a compute, you can use one 
of the ham sound card programs. They put out the tones from the audio output 
of the computer sound card.  Try the mmtty program free from here.

If you really want to convert from rs232 then look for a circuit using one 
of the xr2206 IC chips.  This is about as simple as you can get.
