[GreenKeys] Old Pencil Rubber Erasers

Years ago, when I was young and ambitious, I found an old, 1969 Toyota Corolla. I decided to restore this car to the way it was when it was sold. So, after a friend rebuilt the motor, I took the rubber heater hoses, washed with water, then put them it a pail full of the old style DOT-3 brake fluid (the old stuff, I think it was alcohol and castor oil... not the new silicon stuff). Forgot them for a month or so, and when I pulled them out of the stuff, they were as soft and pliable as the day they were made.

Does anyone know how to restore the hard smudgy eraser for clean erasing.
