I strongly dislike web based bulletin boards and I'm afraid if greenkeys switched
to that format, my participation would most likely taper off. I like seeing what's
new in my mailbox and the volume hasn't been a problem. There is not enough volume
of traffic to justify splitting it into lots of sub-categories, and the problem
with doing that is that low-traffic subcategories get ignored because they're always
nearly empty. Nothing as forlorn as a web BB with no traffic except on the main
topic.
My email client shows me topic threads in a nice clean interface. I feel like as
long as all the data is there, it's better to let the user decide how it's presented
by their choice of client, than force a user interface on them. e.g., maybe I'd like
to use the list by printing out subject lines and messages on a teletype. I can do
that now, but it'd be harder with a web BB.
I would love to never see any disrespectful political commentary here, but I dislike
censorship even more, so I'm happy to hit the delete key when I see it. It's already
a more respectful group than most.
I agree that the digest is kind of a pain because most mail clients don't handle it
properly, leading to things like responses to the digest rather than to the message.
Mostly I'm just happy greenkeys exists and the implementation details are not a huge
deal for me.
