It's true that there really is nothing special about Nassau solder.  The type in question is just an ordinary tin/lead rosin-core solder.   Years ago in Indianapolis, home of Western Electric's huge telephone manufacturing plant, Nassau solder would often turn up at the local hamfests.  I still have some.  I will say that its flux smoke has a pleasant fragrance, but other than that, it is quite ordinary.  Western Electric had a habit of making most everything they needed for their manufacturing operations.  They used tons of electronic grade tin/lead solder, and their Nassau metals recycling operation supplied their needs.

The "audiophile" community today is comprised of many mystics, gurus, snake oil salesmen, and bullshit artists.  Many bizarre belief systems exist within it.  Genuine Nassau solder is believed by some to have special metaphysical properties which are imparted to any equipment containing it.  On the other hand, maybe they're just gettin' off on the smell...
