[GreenKeys] Solder

It's true that there really is nothing special about Nassau solder. The
type in question is just an ordinary tin/lead rosin-core solder. Years
ago in Indianapolis, home of Western Electric's huge telephone
manufacturing plant, Nassau solder would often turn up at the local
hamfests. I still have some. I will say that its flux smoke has a
pleasant fragrance, but other than that, it is quite ordinary. Western
Electric had a habit of making most everything they needed for their
manufacturing operations. They used tons of electronic grade tin/lead
solder, and their Nassau metals recycling operation supplied their needs.
The "audiophile" community today is comprised of many mystics, gurus,
snake oil salesmen, and bullshit artists. Many bizarre belief systems
exist within it. Genuine Nassau solder is believed by some to have
special metaphysical properties which are imparted to any equipment
containing it. On the other hand, maybe they're just gettin' off on the
smell...
