Well, Jeff, you're right! We shouldn't be so hard on people with glass
machines. I think most of us realize that there simply aren't enough metal
machines in existence to satisfy a demand. And our reaction to this
situation should really be pity. Most of today's RTTY enthusiasts will
never be able to experience the thrill of watching the antics that take
place in a "real" machine. I also have a parallel situation where software
defined radio is concerned. I used to make the mistake of saying that SDR
was "good" and enjoyable. But after a while I got tired of fending off the
tons of poop and big rocks that rained down on my head every time I made
such a statement. But I still feel guilty at being able to enjoy that
aspect of ham radio knowing full well that a lot of other radio amateurs are
simply missing something good and I wish they wouldn't be so adamant at
insisting that there is no place for a computer in the ham shack!
