If anybody sees this book available, grab it! It's a fascinating
history of the

development of the Teletype.

"Printing Telegraphy. A New Era Begins", by Edward Kleinschmidt

Nice tidbits (especially to this New Yorker/Long Islander):

- the Model 12 ("simplex machine" was designed on a napkin in a
soda shop in Coney Island, NY

- Kleinschmidt bought a typewriter company to use their
typewriters as the basis of the Model 12.

- Kleinschmidt's original factory in Long Island City was sold
to R H Macy's to be used as

a warehouse when Kleinschmidt merged with Morkrum and moved to
Chicago. I not

only worked in that warehouse when I was a kid (worked as a Macy's
stockboy), but

I later built an AT&T cellsite on the rooftop!.

It's a great book. Limited printing of 100. It has no publisher info
or date, but appears to have

been written in the mid-1960's.

Maybe Tom Kleinschmidt has more info?

73,

Jack K0TTY
