I need to set the wire service tty up for autostart too...
so need to learn about that...
anyone out there happy to accept any printed or file material to add
to archive and study....

everywhere! do a virtual inspection of the SMECC TTY ( and let me know if
anything is amiss... see the gray wire?? but there is also seemingly a
signal wire going in underneath!?!?!) HELP!

That reminds me of some work involving W6FFC. He and friends had set
up an autostart net so they could send messages to unattended receivers.
Irv wasn't universally popular, so there were some pranksters who would
fire up on the autostart frequency and send nothing but line feeds, to
unroll all the paper in the machine. So Irv came up with some stunt box
hacks to prevent that kind of vandalism. I have one of the stunt boxes
somewhere around here, but don't remember exactly what the treatment was.
Maybe it's in one of those articles you have. I remember it involved
having the machine do a LF when it received CR, which eliminated the
overline problem and also prevented line feeding on receipt of multiple
line feeds. And then there was something to cause only a single line feed
in response to multiple CRs.
