Instant chat is possile over the internet using the telnet
capabilities.

The early versions of the software we use for ITTY had telnet
capabilities, and back when we were doing the RTTY broadcasts from
WC2XPF/WA9XHN, we had several "RTTY Talk Shows", where folks could
tenlet in, and whatever they typed over the internet would come out
over the air in baudot.

The problem with the telnet issue is that the system usually works
as a hub, whereby one source is seen instantly by all of the other
machines in the session, and the capabilities are worldwide.
Problem was maintaining control, as two different sources
could/would type simultaneously, causing gibberish.

We did have some interesting talk shows, one time we had one where
there was a fellow from Australia, one from Japan, and one from New
Zealand on the circuit at the same time. Interesting but chaotic.
