But what gives KS7470 that magic aroma?

3-in-1 oil has a very distinctive aroma, which I've read is
citronella.  I have not been able to learn if the aroma is
used simply as a trade mark, or if it has some function.  I
could imagine some volatile constituent in oil being used to
get the oil into tight places, and then it evaporates, leaving
the lubrication behind.
