When placed uponst it the W7TTY workbench grumbled "Why are you
putting that thing on ME?????"

"Silence, Bench" said W7TTY, "I am pursuing a quest to determine the
functionality of this device."

"Senility strikes, eh, TTY?"

"I should have left you at Collins." said TTY. "You are the most
ungrateful item in this universe. Had you been left there, you would
be reinforcing steel or maybe a Hyundai at this point in time!!"

"Pound Sand, TTY, You couldn't live without me, and you know it!!."
"I'll let you ruin my day today, but NO MORE MITES, understood??"

And so it went. The MITE in question was examined, and the following
things were found:

Case Designation is CY-2977/UG

Nomenclature Tag says TT-264/AG
115 Volts 1 phase 400 HZ AC

Piece of Dymo Tape says "Modified for 60 HZ Only"

It is apparently a former Navy unit, as it is painted Black Wrinkle.

When opened, it smelled clean. All other Mites ever opened by TTY
smelled like a heavily used ashtray.

All four of the speed adjustment gears are present. Ther ribbon is
used but in reasonably good condition.

The amount of lubrication is a bit sparse, but not totally dry.

All lights work.

The keyboard can be removed from the machine. Some later Mites were
built such that the keyboard would slide in and out, but could not
be removed from the machine.

The insides of the case are clean.

The shock mounts are relatively pliant, and are of the spring
variety, with an inner skirt which appears to be some sort of woven
wire braid.

There is an accompanying home-concocted chassis with several cords,
a 24 volt 400 mil regulated supply, a black box marked CV-1053/ARC,
and a pilot light and several switches on one end of the chassis,
and several cords, a "CW KEY" jack and an RCA jack marked "SPEAKER".

Cords in the rear are marked, "mike", "audio"
"TTY" and "AC". there are four banana jacks, 2 red and 2 black
marked "Oscilloscope".

Controls and indicator on the other end are:

RED pilot light

Switches:

Power on - off
Equip Mode TT-264 Other
CWID on - off
Mode COMM - LOCAL

The RED pilot light does not come on, and I'm not in the mood to
mess with it.

There is a second power cord with the unit that has a two-terminal
barrier strip affixed to it, with a jumper dangling on a piece of
string.

When barrier strip is Connected to a DATA-TEK 9600 and fed a 60 mil
loop, the machine works.

Print quality is very good.

As of this moment in time it has been printing at 100 WPM for about
45 minutes. There's about ten feet of copy on the floor.

Input signal is 74.2 baud 1.0 unit stop bit, at 31 per cent switched
bias distortion. Copy is perfect.

The same baud Rate with 2.0 unit stop code the machine will accept
37 per cent switched bias distortion. Also perfect copy.

The BELL does not ding.

Internal cosmetics about a 9.0

External Cosmetics about a 7.0

Some 409 and some elbow grease would have it looking pretty good.

There is some manner of copy holder on the front but I am not sure
how to detach it, but it is there. Never seen one witrh the copy
holder.

Also, there ius a front detachable shipping shield which slides in
between the keyboard and the bottom of the case, covers the front
window and pushbuttons, and clips over the front bezel of the
machine.

There is no manual or documentation.

I do have a Navy Department manual for an AN/UGC-38 and -40, and
AN/UGC-41, that I will part with for a reasonable sum.

And that is the ball of whacks...

Questions, anyone???

W7TTY
