Hi Wayne: This is John Fickewirth, the owner of the machine. I have attached two photos to assist you in identifying the machine I have. I used it as a Telex for my international business from 1979 through 1993. It ran on a Western Union line. As I recall, the TELCO had to run one from their switch to my office. I later accessed the TWX circuits via a method I have now forgotten. My machine has the “dowel” type keys.
It was running fine when I put it away. I would like to see it live again, although I doubt I would hook it up to the Telex network, assuming it still exists.
Once I have the machine running, I would like to accomplish two things, as follows:
1) Be able to print on it from my laptop.
2) See if it can be hooked up to the teleprinter circuits of a NEMA machine (a Swiss cryptographic machine) which has output pins for a teleprinter.
By the way, where are you located?
Best Regards,
John M. Fickewirth

Judi,
I am a member of Greenkeys and read you interest in having your 33 refurfished. Is it truly a 33 or 32? 32's were Telex and 33 were TWX. Telex had a rotary dial and 3 row keyboard. 33' were TWX or private line. TWX had a dial, either rotary or most Touch Tone.
I have just finished restoring a near museum quality 33. The nicest one I have seen in many years before restoring.
Can you email me with your location and specifics of you machine? I live in Vermont.
Thanks,
Wayne Durkee

Please find herein below a conversation I instigated regarding refurbishing of a
Teletype 33ASR machine. I am interested in being able to use it, if possible,
with a computer to print out communications. Is this possible? In any case, I am
interested in refurbishing it.
Thank you in advance for your response.
Kind regards,
Judi Gerhardt

That's a Model 33ASR Teletype, not old enough to be an antique.
It's from the 1960s or 1970s. I'm only interested in pre-WWII machines.
Try Greenkeys Digest. ("greenkeys at mailman.qth.net<mailto:greenkeys at mailman.qth.net>") Someone there may be
interested. Also try "http://www.vintage-computer.com/".
There are people interested in the later machines.
What do you want it to do? Actual Telex service is still available from
Easylink, if you really want it.
