     That makes sense. I think what puzzled me was that much
stuff not used in the Bell System did not have the prefix. I
think only the earliest broadcasting equipment did, later
stuff, like the famous 639-A/B microphones did not. Before
being aquired 100% by AT&T WE built an enormous variety of
stuff for commercial/industrial sale.
