I sent the following message to my NADCOMM list because of the
attachment.
If you would like to see the PDF reply off the list.

Some good news...

After replacing most of the keytops on my 35ASR there were some that
are not available.
I am still looking for the CTRL key with red characters and the O with
the underscore (_)
It would be nice to have the F with the ACK in red characters but
beggars can't be choosers.

ACE Hardware was having a one day 20 percent off sale on everything so
I looked around.
I came up with the DICO buffing wheel and polishing compound for
plastic. The wheels
come in slightly different styles but I chose the one with the
stitching covering most of the
buffing material. The PBC compound stick is made especially for plastic.

I have ... a PDF of the procedure. I am very happy with the results.
In the last
image you cannot tell the difference between the new and restored
keytops.

The keytops I buffed are the ESC, V, *:, O, RUB-OUT, and RE-TURN

The same procedure should work with most M28, M32, and M33 keytops.
Some of the special M28 keytops have the upper case character
externally added
this type should not be buffed, or at least use great care to (not)
use too much force.
