   FWIW there is a promotional film for Western Union at 
http://www.archive.org its called _Telegram 1956_ and I 
think its in the Prelinger archive. Toward the end it shows 
fax machines including a very brief view of a Desk Fax. It 
may make you fall over laughing but is a reminder of an 
enormous industry that no longer exists.
