>>>> "How close to the National Quiet Zones surrounding our
large Radio Telescope locations would BPL be allowed?" NEVER got a straight
answer!!!

Thirty some odd years later, and I still feel the bile rising when I contemplate the NRQZ.

Or rather, how the government lied about why radio amateurs were then to come under the huge umbra of the VA/WV one.

Yes, of course there was the radio telescope's efforts to consider. But take a peek via GoogleEarth, Bing, or whatever and decide for yourself how many radio amateurs would have been in that 100 mile (on each side!) umbra. Could there be another reason why the ARRL was not able to even THINK about yelling about this matter. I know; I was the Virginia ARRL Section (Communications) Manager at the time. Wasn't gonna happen. No way.

I did have some insight on the whole thing having been employed by No Such Agency that utilized the 'product' from the nearby (nearby to the telescope that is, thus providing a rather spectacular cover story re the need for the NQRZ...) intercept station. But even the bazillions of folks who read "The Puzzle Palace" by Chuck Bamford would have figured that out some decades ago. He had a whole chapter on intelligence "platforms" even back then and specified the Sugar Grove WV thing in particular.

Radio Telescopes. Right.
