Mike,
Basic description: Heavymetal takes text from the Internet (news, weather, stocks, email, etc), converts it to 5 level Baudot code (among others) and puts it out onto your COM port to drive your TTY.
Note that you need a real COM port on the computer. Most USB-to-COM adaptors will not go SLOW enough for TTY.
Unless you have a "low-level" (military) TTY, you will need a level converter to go from the COM port levels to normal TTY loop levels. This can be easily done with an optocoupler like the HSR312. I built one inside the cover of the serial port 9-pin D connector.
