[GreenKeys] Selectric's

Fellows,
I still have a Selectric III in great operating condition and I use it
occasionally. IBM certainly had the "operator interface" in the sense of
keyboard "feel" down pat. And IBM's original keyboards for the PC tried to
emulate the Selectric feel and sound.
I've had Diablo wheel writers and A-J's and ASR33's and I'd pass them all in
favor of my Selectric III.
Best wishes for 2011

I'll toss one in for the other side
OK, they were not 15's or 28's. But I've seen Selectrics that where
from the Saber system and they had plenty of hours. I knew one of the
FE's and if kept oiled etc they did pretty well. I use to sit in front
of two one was the console to a 360 and the other a APL terminal. I
don't remember anything going bad. Other then once when someone
knocked a pretty big 7up into one.
Would be interesting to dig through the (i guess now nonexistent)
archives of IBM service records. Many Selectric's did as much of not
more work then many tty's. For those of use from before computers on
our desks, and worked at big corporations, remember the department or
exec' secretary Selectric ever being quiet ? When I started at
Tektronix the senior sec there typed so fast she would jam them, she
could type and talk to you at the same time as well. I don't remember
that thing ever being quiet.
Maybe it was just poor maintenance ?
I'd love to have one again.

PS looking for a APL PC keyboard.
