[GreenKeys] OT: Microsoft to support Windows XP for an additional year...

'98 & 'ME are both OS's I would replace. Both were a good deal less,
capability & usage-wise, than 'XP is. I was-way back when-a beta tester for
WIN XP, and liked it a LOT better than the '98 I was using when 'XP came
along. Obviously I like WIN7 better than any of 'em, but there's nothing
compelling about upgrading from WIN XP. The predecessors to 'XP: yes I would
upgrade.
Originally, I upgraded to WIN7 (the day after it was released for
distribution) because I needed to understand its usage, for work. The work
PCs have all been 'XP since the older client database we used was not
compatible with WIN7, so I couldn't expect to understand the workings of
WIN7 there. Hence, my PC had to be the guinea pig. I have come to appreciate
WIN7 in the years since. Obviously.
Vista is not the absolute dog many IT types accuse it of being (certainly
several things were big-time clunky-to be kind,) it's just that virtually
all of those IT-types' problems/complaints with it are addressed in WIN7.

And last night I sat staring at my copy of Windows ME, wondering just why I
was bothering to keep the wretched thing. After some time I realized that
it was only because of my habit to never throw anything away and did a six
foot toss into the wastebasket.

PS This afternoon I expect a visitor to the radio shack and I have checked
to make sure that the 28KSR is "local loop operational." The kid is
probably in his early 30's but I doubt that he has ever seen a teletype
machine of any model. Sad.

I do have one computer running Vista. And my wife's computer does run
7---at her request because she runs in circles that "have the latest". But
the other four in the radio shack (each connected to a different radio and
three running software defined rigs and the two in front of me in the home
office) use XP. I agree, why change something that works?
