Today Qwest/CenturyLink was upgrading internet service in this
direction of the world by installing fiber optics to replace
previous methods.
ITTY is back on the air, as is WLO.
WLO has changed format to include SITOR-B, (Forward Error
Correction) transmissions.
It appears that The story is first run in SITOR-B, and then mode
switches to RTTY after the SITOR-B transmission is concluded.
An announcement at the conclusion of a SITOR-B run states that the
mode is shifting to RTTY, and at the end of an RTTY segment it
announces switching to SITOR-B.
Shift in RTTY is right-side up, meaning mark frequency s higher in
frequency than space.
SITOR-B decoding must be reversed. Speed of RTTY is 45.45 baud.
Speed in SITOR is 50 baud.
Using decoding program SeaTTY for a comparison indicates that
SITOR-B indeed produces more readable copy.
The ITTY system will no longer be supplying RTTY signals for WLO.
The technical specialists at WLO have a specification for
reliability that ITTY cannot compete with.
Windows and the internet being what they are cannot meet the
demands. Critical Updates are such that most often they require a
shutdown and reboot. A recent update of Windows Media Player had the
WLO crew scratching their heads as to how to bring Media Player back
on line.
On behalf of the ITTY staff I would liike to thank Rene, Alan the
Programmer, Nick Tusa and loveable Jack Hart for the opportunity to
participate in this adventure. We proved that it could be done over
the internet and that the interest in RTTY News Transmissions is
there. It just does not meet the standards required to meet a very
demanding application.
