Hi All:
A couple of weeks ago, I started a thread about replacing
the sound felt pads in my Model 15 teletype. These has
largely disintegrated, and someone in the past (perhaps a
relative of MacGuyver) had taped it together as much as he
could using duct tape.
Finally my search led me to Ebay item # 150637154645 a
sound deadening closed cell foam product sold for car sound
insulation. I am told this is also used for noise deadening
in aircraft.
It arrived today, and has worked very well. The old felt
blankets peeled off easier that expected, and this new
sound insulation stuck very well using its peel off
backing. I used the old felt pads as a template to cut the
new soundproofing. The entire process of removing what was
left of the old insulation, cleaning, and replacement of
the pads took about 1/2 hour...

The end result is a machine which is about 30% quieter than
before, and which doesn't bind when put on the teletype due
to the old insulation which was ripped and coming loose in
many places. The 4 sheets bought for $11.95 CDN in the
auction were just enough to do the job, and I have a few
smaller scraps left over.
