In addition to what's already been said, it makes a difference whether
you want to receive or operate RTTY the modern way with a software modem
on a PC or if you want to operate the greenkey way with a Real Teletype
machine. Much of what is in the old books applies only to the latter.
If you are an ARRL member you have access to the QST search feature and
there are a lot of articles from QST online.
There is very very little RTTY to be heard these days outside the ham
bands. 14080-14090 is about all you need to know, except on contest
weekends when it's all over the CW portions of the bands. And the
transmissions from KSM - which are usually announced on this list.
And the ARRL bulletins in the ham bands on a schedule listed in QST.
Sad to say, the SP-600 is not a very good receiver for modern day RTTY.
It drifts too much. Back in the old days we used 850 Hz shift and fairly
wide filters to tolerate the drift. About the same time that SSB became
mainstream, and ham equipment became frequency stable enough for good
SSB operation, the ham RTTY community went to 170 Hz shift. This is
painful if you have to keep your hand on the tuning knob all the time.
