I may have called that for years out of habit and been wrong all along. It was one of the switch settings on the J & L Editor. EIA or ASCII input and output options.

Well, yes, EIA is an acronym for an industry group, but I couldn't
ind anything about "EIA code". I looked at the history section on
he Wikipedia page for ASCII and couldn't find any mention of EIA.
Perhaps you are thinking of ITA/ITA2? That is mentioned on the
ikipedia page for baudot code as a precursor to ASCII.
