Duncan:

The AN/MSC you are referring to was the AN/MSC-29, Tactical
CommCenter Van. Spent lots of time in those. They were replaced
by the AN/TSC-58 after Vietnam (which had lesser capabilty).

The AN/MSC-29 ("29" van), had a total of 8 ea TT-4s, 8 ea TT-76s, at
least 8+ TH-5s, an SB-22 and a TA-312. It had provision for 8 KW-7s
and could support either 8 half-duplex circuits, or 4 full duplex
circuits, all with crypto. It could be used as a trib and sometimes
was used as a mini tape relay station. Generally, the MSC-29 was
accompanied by the AN/GSQ-80, Message Center van, also mounted
on an M35A2 truck. The GSQ-80 was capable of supporting additional
TT-4s/TT-98s and TT-76s for "poking" and other message functions, as
well as the "terminal" for the MSC-29 when the 29 was being used as
a relay station. Both vans included the aforementioned SB-22, and
both were equipped with LS-147, Intercom Station "bitch box".
