Hi Don and all on the Greenkeys list:
I can't agree with Gerry much more.... I can't see Don's
post as political, and although off-topic, which he warned
us it was, it was a very interesting post. It is nice to
see the man spoken of honoured for his bravery. While not
American, I can appreciate seeing stories of the immense
bravery of soldiers fighting in the Middle East.
However, this thread really has carried on far too long.
Don's posting doesn't bother me at all, and obviously, it
was a subject important to him, and which he thought would
be of interest to others. Cut him, and all of us
unperturbed by the posting some slack, and let this thread
die a peaceful death.
Don is a gentleman who most, if not all of us owe a great
deal to, and who has helped almost everyone on this list.
In fact, without Don and other mainstays, this list
wouldn't be the same.
I will continue to enjoy this list and its many
contributors. May those teletypes keep clacking.
Slightly changing the subject, I just a few minutes ago had
a gentleman visit the museum, and who truly enjoyed a
demonstration of the teletypes. He was the honorable
Gilbert Clements, a past Lieutenant Governor of P.E.I. His
father was one of those involved in burying communications
and electrical cables to PEI around the turn of the
century. He brought with him a posse of his cronies, among
whom was a former telephone operator from Montague, and
another gentleman who worked operating telegraph in the
town many years ago.
It was a nice, enjoyable visit, and it is great to be able
to ensure teletypes are central to every visit.
