Eugene,
I suspect this was a spare unit for the Canadian military. They liked
the dark blue-gray color.
Probably smart as the grease would not show so much..! Also the color
went well with the newer Model 40 gear.
Most of the stand alone ROTRs had the three speed shifter when used by
the military.
The newer logo tag indicates some of the last production. I did not
notice the sound insulation,
but if it is the foam... get rid of it and replace it with cotton
batting.
As for your motor, my suggestion would be to spray some One Lube into
the lube fittings using
the supplied "straw" turn it over and over by hand and then run it for
a minute or two and then spray in there again.
Sure glad you found and are preserving that unit. Manuals also... WOW!

Hello all,
A few weeks ago Marc Dohrendorf advertised some goodies for sale in
Canada.
I was (very) fortunate to get the 28 typing reperf (LPR?). This thing
is
near immaculate. I honestly believe it was never used. Or perhaps it was
professionally reconditioned at some service depot. It is as clean as
you
can imagine. Here are some photos I took:

What is really a stroke of fortune, is that this has a 3 speed gear
box in
it! Wow! Was that common? (I dunno, maybe they all had it?). Even
came with
one of those blue connectors with the back shell, completely unused
ready
for some wire and solder. Came with two belts in new condx (perfectly
usable) and a bunch of manuals!
I am one happy camper. I rotated the motor by hand and it is really
gummed
up. I plan to lube it. But do I need to dismantle the motor and
degrease it
first? Or can I just lube and see what happens? I have bad memories from
when I was a kid dismantling a motor and having springs and brushes
shoot
under the couch, never to be seen again!
