Thanks to David for posting the link to "Application of Printing Telegraph to Long-Wave Radio Circuits." from the Bell System Technical Journal. I was very happy to be able to read this article but even more excited to be able to see the
bibliography at the end of the article which referenced two 1922 New York Times articles about early RTTY. Luckily, the NYT has original copies of these two articles available as PDF files online!
I was excited to read about the US Naval Department experiments with air to ground RTTY that are described here

Is this the first time that Teletype appears in print?
and also experiments by RCA from Chatham MA to the R.M.S. Majestic later that year:

Interesting to note that they were testing at 80 - 100 WPM.
