Nico,

Most problems on 33's that have been stored a long time are related to congealed grease. It can be freed up with some solvent (I use Breakaway) and then oiled after drying. Dont spray any solvent near plastic parts like the answerback contact area or kybd contacts etc. The codebars that Peter mentioned are usually sluggish with the congealed grease.

Does it type letters correctly?

CR is 1348 marking and LF is 24 marking. You can look at the code bars on the left side where they extend out from under the tape punch to check. Marking codebars will extend out, spacing will not. #1 is at the rear of the bars, 8 at the front. Some machines with ALT kybds send the 8th pulse all the time.

Also on 33's, the main rule is VISUAL, VISUAL, VISUAL, right guys? No adjustments unless you are sure. Not too much typing till you check the rubber hammer or you will ruin the typewheel. I think thats enuf for now.

Have fun!

IIRC there are code levers which move when the CR and LF are present in
he individual bars after being converted to parallel. Check that they
re lubricated and can move freely and that the corresponding mechanisms
re the same. Check also for missing springs. It's been a long time
30+ years but that's a good start.

 Hi folks
I've just laid my dirty hands on an ASR33, destined for our data museum.
Very nice machine, kept in a dry cellar for many years.
The only problem I've encountered so far, is that neither RETURN nor
LINEFEED work. Things move, but the carriage is not returned, and the paper
 is not advanced.
I have only this mmachine at home, so I can't readily compare it to a
 working machine.
 Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, I have the full documentation, so even references to pages would be
 appreciated
 Regards
 Nico (OZ 1 BMC)
