IIRC there are code levers which move when the CR and LF are present in 
the individual bars after being converted to parallel.  Check that they 
are lubricated and can move freely and that the corresponding mechanisms 
are the same.  Check also for missing springs.  It's been a long time 
(30+ years but that's a good start.
