I did a partial disassembly of the punch unit of one of my
Teletypesetter Keyboard Perforators (a 6-level punch) to show
Dave Hunter some images of a different machine. They're not great
photos, and the punch itself is pretty grubby, but it is interesting
to see the mechanism and a 6-level punch block. In case you might
be interested, they're online for a while at:
http://www.lemur.com/temp/tts-punch-block-disassembly/index.html
I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the punch - it's dirty
and has some surface rust, but I was expecting much, much worse.
This is a future project, though, so for now I've just reassembled
(and lubricated) the unit.
In semi-related news, I did get a chance yesterday to see a Linotype
equipped for Teletypesetter. It's at the Pioneer Village Museum in
Barron, Wisconsin (north of Eau Claire). See:

and

It's a rather old machine (a Model 5, probably from 1912), retrofitted
for TTS. It isn't presently running, but may be in the future.

David M.
