Dried out ribbons can be revitalized with a bit of diesel oil per Dave Ross's method. We did it at MRCG meet this year and got nice bold print.

 Hi Larry and all:

Now, that sounds as if it would work. The problem was, that
I used my only good ribbon in my Model 28 ASR, and that
left me only with a couple of NOS, but dried out British
Navy ribbons, made for a European machine. They had no
rivets at the ends, and I had to swap spools to make them
 work...

However, with this little trick, they should work just
 great.

 Thanks,

 Dave
    You're working too hard.
All the mechanical Teletypes use standard Underwood typewriter ribbons,
hich are still available. They're Nukote B76 ribbons, available from
mazon.com:

The original ribbons were cotton, and these are nylon, so they don't
ast as long. You can turn them over and use the other half, though.
                    John Nagle
