NIck,
Hopefully I sent you a manual for the punch. If not I will copy one
for you.
The symptoms indicate one or two things or both....
Lack of lubrication is the number one cause. No. 2 is adjustment.
That machine has been sitting un-operated for probably 20 years.
Try some Liquid Wrench followed by Lube One or SAE 10 Oil.
Don
P.S. Remember my advice is worth just what you are paying me for
it... ;-)

Thanks to several list members I have got my 28RT wiring sussed out
and am starting to test/debug. I've been out of town for a week but
finally got to spend a little time on it tonight.
First step is the reperf. My question is about (chadless) punching.
The selector mechanism seems to work OK but for testing I am just
manually moving the push levers (and rotating the motor by hand so I
can see what's happening). But the symptom is the same at slow speed
or full speed.
Symptom is that, on LTRS, holes 3 and 5 don't punch as much as 1,2,4 -
adjusting the eccentric that controls the slide post movement causes
all the pins to punch more or less, but even at max punch, 3 and 5
don't go up far enough to make a good chad flap.
The punch slides all seem to spring to the left to engage the slide
post OK, but the punch slide tips that hit the punch pins are clearly
lower for 3 and 5 than for the others. Is there some individual punch
slide adjustment I am missing? or have these two punch slides (or
slide post) worn so that they just won't travel enough?
I have no experience with the reperf so don't know whether this is
unusual, something is worn, or I'm just missing some individual slide
punch adjustment.
Many thanks to you knowledgable guys for helping this newbie out.
cheers,
Nick
