Hi Duncan:

Presumably, this applied to the entire family of Kleinschmidt teletype
machines that were contemporaries of the TT-76 (AN/GGC-3). Most
of these machines were all made of the same parts and worked the
same way. In my 25 years in the Army, we used all kinds of tape in
Kleinschmidt machines: yellow, pink, purple, white, black and German
white parchment with printed flowers all over the tape.....and all
of these tapes worked well in those machines. In Vietnam, we also
had some green mylar that was used to train RVN Signal troops and
on some of the older AN/FGA-21s (old Python encryption systems),
the mylars worked just fine too. (AN/FGA-21s were essentially TT-98s
and some Model 19 tape gear with a mixer and some other components,
most of which were used exclusively by the Special Forces units in RVN,
in lieu of KL-7s (too complicated and slow) or KW-7s (too current and
too valuable to risk compromise in some of the field situations that the
FGA-21s were used in).
