Hi, my name is Jim I've recently subscribed to Greenkeys and thought I'd
introduce myself.
My interest in teleprinters dates back to the mid 60s. I own a variety
of Creed 5 unit (Baudot) machines and am currently trying to get them
all running as part of my amateur radio station (callsign G4PFJ).
The machines are
Creed 7B teleprinter dating from about 1946. This is a transportable
model with a fold up steel table and a 24 V dc motor.
3 Creed 6S6 tape readers. All are different - the oldest has a 160 V dc
motor and the pecker holes are at an angle - the tape doesn't stop
during a character read. The others are newer, one has a 24 V dc motor
and the other a 240 V ac motor both have the pecker holes are at right
angles to the tape direction so the tape stops during each character read.
Creed 25 parallel tape punch - this could punch 7 hole ASCII tape but
also accomodates 5 hole tape.
Creed 444 teleprinter - this dates from the late 1960s and is the only
machine with a serious problem. This model has an integral tape punch
and reader. The reader is driven by a toothed belt which has broken. I'm
currently trying to find a replacement. Unfortunately the designers must
have expected a very long life from these belts because repair involves
considerable dismantling of the reader.
I also have manuals for the 7B and 25.
I don't expect to be a regular contributor but will be watching
particularly for Creed related posts.
