You'd think that someone in Skokie would want to leverage that
part of their heritage.
I can't help but think that if a museum could be persuaded to
preserve this history, that this mailing list group would have
something to do with it. If one museum can't be found, then
make a list of the military/railroad/telecomm museums that would.
When someone passes, apart from the personal turmoil, the heirs or
those in charge of the estate are concerned with ease of cleanup
and with reclaiming value.
If you think they'll want to empty the house and the garage, then
pre-arrange a place to send the stuff and tell the heirs. If you
think someone wants to buy it, tell the heirs. Put tags on the
device that say "Sells on eBay for $200". That'll catch their eye.
Leave a note that says "If I pass, call Ernie at the radio club,
he'll handle all the teletype junk."
