[GreenKeys] Old man has an adventure...

I had a small adventure the other evening. I have been going through
all of the boxes we moved here with from California. Our schedule was
very hurried trying to close on both homes on schedule and get all of
our things moved. The moving van acrually left before we had all of
the boxes loaded. So what was left we packed as best we could and
took it to my former work-place where I asked for our final boxes to
be shipped to our new address.

All of this made the arrival of boxes a real puzzle as we had very
little idea of what was where. I went through a box that I had been
in previously thinking the books I was looking for might be in there
somewhere. Being more enthusiastic than usual I took everything out
and found a lot of crushed paper followed by a large wad of stranded
paper... followed by the sight of the bottom of a base for a Model 28
KSR Teletype machine. I was surprised but not quite as surprised
as the mouse that was living in there. At any rate the mouse made a
huge jump and went somewhere unknown. Time for DeCon..!

I pulled out the base to find it was in pretty good shape... and
found it had a 75-100-60 wpm gear shift installed. So after much
cleaning and liberal use of Liquid Wrench the gear shift is working
again. I put it in my trusty 28KSR cabinet and mounted a typing
unit. It prints iTTY just fine, however I do not like the sound of
the all-steel gear shift. The base I normally have in the cabinet
has a 67-100-60 all nylon gear shift and is nice and smooth and
quiet. As much as I would like to sub the 67 for 75 wpm I think I
will go back to the nylon shifter.

I have to go now and buy some DeCon... should have done that
when the critter ate all the wires in my ST-6 terminal unit...

Too soon old and too late smart.
